So, what is the difference between aluminum substrate and copper substrate?
Generally, aluminum substrates are single-layered, which is one of the PCB boards; due to its good thermal conductivity, it is considered to be a general term for PCB boards specifically used in the LED industry. At present, the most commonly used LED aluminum substrates have front and back sides. The white side is for soldering the LED pins, and the other side is in the natural color of aluminum. Generally, a thermal conductive paste is applied for contact with the thermal conductive part. The metal base copper clad laminate with good heat dissipation function generally consists of a three-layer structure, which is a circuit layer (copper foil), an insulating layer and a metal base layer. For high-end use, it is also designed as a double-sided board, and the structure is circuit layer, insulating layer, aluminum base, insulating layer, and circuit layer. Very few applications are multi-layer boards, which can be made by bonding ordinary multi-layer boards with insulating layers and aluminum bases. Aluminum substrates are widely used in hybrid integrated circuits, automobiles, office automation, high-power electrical equipment, power supply equipment and other fields with excellent heat dissipation, good machinability, dimensional stability and electrical performance.
And the most PCB boards we talk about are generally copper substrates, which are also divided into single, double-layer and multi-layer boards according to the number of layers. Compared with aluminum substrates, copper substrates have relatively special materials and relatively better heat dissipation. Good, so the price will be relatively more expensive, mainly suitable for high-frequency circuits and areas with large changes in high and low temperature, and the heat dissipation of precision communication equipment and architectural decoration industries.
What needs to be explained here is that vias cannot be made on the aluminum substrate. Therefore, it is easy to see whether the board is an aluminum substrate through the finished PCB board.
