US$24.9 billion, the latest global semiconductor equipment shipments, topped by mainland China

According to a report released by SEMI on Tuesday (7th) local time, global semiconductor equipment shipments in the second quarter of 2021 increased by 48% year-on-year to a record US$24.9 billion, an increase of 5% from the previous quarter.

 

In terms of regions, China's equipment shipments in mainland China once again surpassed South Korea, up 38% from the first quarter and 79% year-on-year to 8.22 billion U.S. dollars. South Korea’s shipments were 6.62 billion U.S. dollars and Taiwan, China ranked No. Third, Japan and North America rank fourth and fifth respectively.


Cao Shilun, president of SEMI China Taiwan, said that new applications such as HPC, AI, and AIoT have continuously increased demand for high-end processors and SoCs, driving the demand for foundry production capacity and boosting the development of semiconductor equipment. "SEMI is optimistic that global semiconductor equipment shipments continue to usher in strong growth."
